Turkish forces shell 7 villages in Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled on Monday dawn the countryside of Manbij in northern Syria.

The Manbij Military Council, a component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said the Turkish forces and the SNA factions shelled seven residential villages in the northern and eastern countryside of Manbij.

The shelling targeted the villages of al-Tokhar, Daraj, Arab Hassan, al-Jarad, Um Jloud and Awn Dadat with dozens of artillery and mortar shells, the council added.

Villages in the north of the city of Manbij experience frequent shelling and infiltration attempts by the Turkish forces and their SNA factions that result in casualties and material loss.

The city of Manbij and its countryside are militarily run by the Manbij Military Council that was founded in 2017 from the communities of the area. The areas is administratively run by the Democratic Civil Administration of Manbij that is affiliated with the AANES.

The SDF supported by the U.S.-led Global Coalition liberated Manbij from the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2016 following fierce battles.
