Iraq says 20,000 citizens still in Syria’s Hawl Camp
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The total number of the Iraqis who are still in Hawl Camp in Northeast Syria is 20,000, an Iraqi official said on Tuesday.
Karim al-Nouri, Undersecretary of Iraq’s Ministry of Immigration and Displacement, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the total number of the people who are still present in the Hawl Camp is more than 50,000 from different countries, including 20,000 from Iraq.
He indicated that about 3,000 Iraqis have left the camp and were repatriated.
Al-Nouri warned that the remaining people inside the camp may create members who will be more dangerous than those of ISIS terrorists.
Hawl Camp, 45 km east of the city of Hasakah, is a house for about 55.829 individuals, including 28.725 Iraqis, 18.850 Syrians and 8.254 of foreign nationalities, according to the latest statistics obtained by North Press.
Early in June, Sheikhmous Ahmad, head of IDPs and Refugees Affairs Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said 17 batches of Iraqi families have left Hawl Camp since the start of the process.
