SNA court sentences 3 militants to death for killing activist in Aleppo
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A court affiliated with the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), sentenced on Wednesday three militants of a faction in the countryside of Aleppo, northwestern Syria, to death for the murder of a local activist in 2022.
A source told North Press the military criminal court in the town of al-Rai sentenced three militants of SNA’s Hamza Division to death by hanging after convicting them of the intentional murder of three people.
Muhammad Abu Ghanoum, a local activist, and his pregnant wife were killed by militants of Hamza Division in al-Bab in October 2022.
Abu Ghanoum was a prominent media activists in the countryside of Aleppo. He organized protests against SNA factions for committing violations against civilians. He had also criticized the spread of corruption in the region and had reportedly received threats of murder several times.
Moreover, the court sentenced to death Anwar Salman from the countryside of Homs, Muhammad al-Ugel from Deir ez-Zor, and Muhammad al-Maghir, aka Abu Sultan, who is a commander of a brigade in the Hamza Division.
The source said that the court also sentenced Murad Khallo from al-Bab to three months in prison for not turning in the aforementioned individuals to the authorities.
The source added that the verdict is not final as it is can be appealed within the allowed legal period.
