KRI security council captures senior ISIS leader in Iraq

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) announced on Friday capturing a senior leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) after returning from Turkey.

Socrates Khalil, 37, who was a close associate of the late ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was apprehended upon arriving to Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) with a fake passport after spending five years in Turkey.

“After spending five years in Turkey, Khalil returned to Kurdistan with a forged passport and was swiftly apprehended,” the statement said

.

According to the statement, Khalil, aka Abdullah the Explosive, was responsible for making bombs for ISIS and was involved in significant operations under al-Baghdadi’s command.

The statement pointed out Khalil played a key role in the 2014 takeover of Mosul by ISIS and took part in numerous battles against Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga forces.
