Turkish shelling on Raqqa’s countryside burns unharvested farmlands
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and its affiliated armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA) shelled on Friday several villages in the countryside of Raqqa, northern Syria, setting fire to vast areas of agricultural lands.
A local source from the town of Ain Issa told North Press that Turkish forces and SNA factions targeted several villages in the countryside of Ain Issa in the north of Raqqa.
The source added the shelling set fire to a large area of farmlands that had not been harvested yet.
The fires could not be extinguished at the time due to ongoing Turkish shelling that lasted for more than an hour, according to the source.
In October 2019, Turkey conducted Operation Peace Spring, whereby it occupied the border strip stretching between the cities of Tel Abyad in Raqqa and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in Hasakah in northeast Syria.
The territories adjacent to the occupied areas witness constant attacks and shelling by Turkish forces and its SNA factions, causing casualties and material damage to civilian properties.
