ISIS cells burn man’s car for not paying zakat in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Sleeper cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) burned on Tuesday a vehicle belonging to an investor of an oil well in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, for refusing to pay zakat.
A local source told North Press that two ISIS militants riding a motorcycle set the vehicle of Ahmad al-Numan, a local oil well investor, on fire in the village of al-Jarzi in the east of Deir ez-Zor because he refused to pay zakat to the group.
The source pointed out that the majority of owners of makeshift oil refineries and investors in the village are threatened by ISIS and are forced to pay sums of money to the group under the name of “zakat.”
On Nov 28, 2023, ISIS militants attacked Mousab al-Hazoum, owner of a remittance office, in the village of Hawaij in the east of Deir ez-Zor for refusing to pay zakat.
Additionally, on June 23, 2023, unknown attackers targeted with two missiles the house of Muhammad al-Hebel, an oil well investor, in the town of Diban in the southeast of Deir ez-Zor.
