AANES hands over 50 ISIS detainees to Tajikistan
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced on Thursday that it handed over 50 individuals of the families of the Islamic State (ISIS) to Tajikistan.
The AANES Foreign Relations Department stated that it handed over 17 women and 33 children from ISIS holding Tajik nationality.
It added that they received the Tajik delegation, led by Ambassador Zabidullah Zabidov, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Kuwait, and the accompanying delegation, at the head office of the Foreign Relations Department in Qamishli.
The AANES indicated that the two sides discussed several issues of mutual concern, including the overall situation in Syria and specifically in Northeast Syria.
Fener al-Kait, Deputy Co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department, said that the AANES always emphasizes the importance of intra-Syrian dialogue as a mean to resolve the crisis in the country.
Al-Kait stressed that the Turkish attacks on the areas of the AANES have caused systematic destruction of infrastructure and have affected the lives of millions of people and affected efforts to combat ISIS.
Tens of thousands of women and children of ISIS families from about 60 countries are still in the two camps of Hawl and Roj within in Northeast Syria, in addition to thousands of ISIS members in prisons who were surrendered to the SDF during the fall of ISIS in its last stronghold in Baghuz in Deir ez-Zor Governorate.
