Yazidis in Syria’s Qamishli celebrate New Year
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Yazidi people in Hasakah Governorate, Northeast Syria, celebrated on Wednesday the Yazidi New Year which marks the first Wednesday of April each year according to the eastern calendar.
The celebration was held in the town of Amude, some 20 km to the west of the city of Qamishli. It was participated by the different communities of Northeast Syria, a region that has been run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) since 2014.
”We are delighted today as we celebrate the Yazidi New Year,” Nalin Rasho, Co-chair of the Yazidi House in Hasakah, a civil non-governmental organization, said. “All communities celebrate this day with us.”
She congratulated the Kurdish people, especially the Yazidis, on this day.
In the town of Tirbe Spiyeh (al-Qahtaniyah), 20 km to the east of Qamishli, another celebration was held where thousands attended the celebration.
The celebration included singing, dancing and theatrical performances.
