UN calls for promoting health, ensuring safety in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Najat Rochdi, UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, called on Sunday on all actors to prioritize promoting health, ensuring safety, and serving all Syrians, particularly the most vulnerable.
Rochdi said on X Platform that violence in Syria has claimed civilian lives, destroyed infrastructure, and disrupted access to safe water, electricity, and education. Therefore, she stressed that “all violence must end”.
These disruptions severely impact health and well-being, exacerbating an already dire situation, according to Rochdi.
She said “We must ensure sustained access and funding for life-saving aid to safeguard health and well-being of all Syrians.
In September 2024, the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, said a comprehensive solution for the Syrian crisis is still hard to achieve. He called for taking “concrete moves” and confidence-building measures to break the political stalemate.
On March 15, Syrians commemorate the early days of the protests that broke out in 2011 and later led to the killing of thousands and the emigration of millions in addition to massive destruction of infrastructure. Moreover, the conflict led to the involvement of armed groups and foreign countries in Syria. The matter led the issue to be more complicated and has not been solved yet.
