U.S. imposes visa restrictions against 10 officials in Syrian government

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Department of State imposed on Friday visa restrictions against 10 officials of the Syrian government and their immediate families for involving in human rights violations.

The Department of State said, in a statement, that Antony Blinken, Secretary of State “is taking steps to impose visa restrictions against 10 government officials and members of their immediate families for these officials’ involvement in serious human rights abuses.”

The Department reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to promote accountability for those involved in repression of Syrians and justice for victims and survivors.

Additionally, the Department stressed that the U.S. will not normalize relations with “the Assad regime absent authentic progress towards a lasting political solution in line with UNSCR 2254.”

On March 26, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions against 11 individuals and entities for their involvement in supporting the Syrian “regime”.
