DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Four people were killed in the past 24 hours in landmine explosions in the countryside of Homs and Deir ez-Zor, central and eastern Syria.
A local source told North Press that a landmine exploded in a group of workers gathering metal materials from dumpsters in the town of Hassia in the south of Homs.
The explosion killed Muhammad al-Khaled, his cousin Nassir, and Ali al-Badrani, all of whom are IDPs from the city of Deir ez-Zor.
Meanwhile, Hamad al-Balo was killed in a landmine explosion while herding his sheep on the outskirts of the desert in the village of al-Masrab in the west of Deir ez-Zor.
Remnants of war in Syria are considered one of the most dangerous legacies of the decade-long conflict. The parties to the conflict, with the Islamic State (ISIS) taking the lead, planted IEDs and mines in areas under their control as well as in areas controlled by their enemies in order to protect themselves against attacks.
