People commemorate beginning of uprising in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of residents of Daraa Governorate, south Syria, protested on Monday near al-Omari Mosque in the city center, commemorating the anniversary of the start of the Syrian protests against the government thirteen years ago.

According to a local activist, the residents of Daraa gathered for a demonstration in al-Omari Mosque, which was the origin of the initial protests in March 2011 under the banner of “We Are Continuing.”

The protesters expressed their determination to persist in their protests and not back down, despite the casualties, displacement, and destruction that has occurred, according to the source.

The protestors chanted against the government and called for the withdrawal of the Iranian-backed militias from the region and the release of detainees, the source added.

Similar demonstrations took place in the towns of Muzayrib in western Daraa countryside and al-Jeezah in eastern Daraa countryside.

Additionally, activists in the cities of Jassem and Nawa and the town of Inkhil, called for demonstrations in the evening of the day.
