Protesters close government-owned media center in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Protesters in Suwayda Governorate, southern Syria, closed the government-owned Radio and TV Center on Monday for reasons related to its coverage of the ongoing protests in Suwayda and its denial of the residents’ claims.
A statement issued by the protesters in front of the Radio and TV Center said that media affiliated with the Syrian government is prohibited, and its cameras are not allowed in the streets as it is associated with security agencies and lies to the Syrian people.
Furthermore, the protestors added that the center is closed and considered the property of the people, and any attempt to operate it without the approval of the popular uprising will bear the consequences of social and civil prosecution.
The protesters regarded the media center as a traitor to journalistic integrity, and they called for holding all its employees accountable for their moral failure and abandonment of advocating for the rights of the Syrian people and their right to freedom.
They pointed out that all media platforms supporting them and their demands in covering the protests are free national media representing all the residents of Suwayda.
Suwayda has been witnessing anti-government protests for over half a year and they continue to persist due to the government’s failure to respond to the protesters’ demands.
