Turkish border guards assault 35 asylum seekers in Syria’s Jindires
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards assaulted on Wednesday 35 individuals, including women, while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border near the town of Jindires, north of Aleppo, northwest Syria.
An eyewitness told North Press that the Turkish border guards brutally tortured 35 individuals, including women, while they were attempting to cross the border near the village of Hamam, west of Jindires.
The asylum seekers, hail from the governorates of Idlib and Hama, and Deir ez-Zor, were arrested, beaten and handed over to the Turkish-backed Military Police at al-Hamam border crossing, according to the source.
The Military Police in turn imposed a royalty of 500 Turkish liras on each one of them, the source added.
The eyewitness pointed out that the medical teams at the crossing immediately transferred two young men to Afrin’s Military Hospital due to various fractures in their bodies.
Syrians attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border are continuously beaten and tortured by the Turkish border guards.
On Mar. 4, the border guards killed a Syrian asylum seeker and injured another while attempting to cross into Turkey from the countryside of the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria.
