Turkish border guards kill asylum seeker in Syria’s Sere Kaniye
SERE KANIYE, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards killed on Monday a Syrian asylum seeker and injured another while attempting to cross into Turkey from the countryside of the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria.
An official in the Military Police, affiliated with the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), that the border guards opened fire on a group of civilians as they were trying to cross from the town of Mabrouka west of Sere Kaniye to Turkey.
The source added the shooting resulted in the killing of Wadah Shalhoom, 28, and the injury of another.
Additionally, the border guards detained 12 others.
The source pointed out that the residents of the area managed to retrieve the bodies of the killed person and the injured one, and they were transported to a hospital in the city.
On March 2, the border guards apprehended three people while trying to cross the Turkish-Syrian border, and threw them in the Orontes River, west of Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria, after brutally beating them. As a result, one of them died in the river.
