UAE ambassador to Syria visits Damascus

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, UAE Ambassador to Syria, Hassan Ahmad al-Shahi, met Syrian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Mekdad, in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Syria’s state-run SANA news agency said on Tuesday, “Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, received on Tuesday a copy of credentials of Mr. Hasan Ahmad al-Shahi as an Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Syrian Arab Republic.”

In December 2018, the UAE reopened its embassy in Damascus after years of severed relations between the two countries due to differing positions on the war in Syria.

In 2015, al-Shahi was the UAE ambassador to Iraq, and prior to that, he was an ambassador to Sudan.
