ISIS kills, injures dozens of government forces in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The sleeper cells of the Islamic State group (ISIS) launched on Tuesday a massive attack on the posts of the Syrian government forces in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
The ISIS cells attacked the posts of Division 17 of the government forces near the towns of al-Tebni and Madan, west of Deir ez-Zor, and controlled them for hours, a military source from the government forces said.
The attack led to killing of five officers of the government forces and 10 militants of Iranian-backed militias, in addition to the injury of more than 20 others, the source told North Press.
Another source said the group controlled the government’s posts and blocked the road between Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa for hours.
Additionally, the ISIS attacked posts of the National Defense Forces (NDF), a militia affiliated with the government forces, in the town of Sukhnah in the Syrian Desert, and the post of the Afghani Liwa Fatemiyoun in the town of Kobajeb in the south of Deir ez-Zor.
