SDF thwarts infiltration attempt in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An armed group tried early on Tuesday to infiltrate from areas under the control of the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias to areas held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A field source told North Press that the SDF thwarted an infiltration attempt by gunmen to al-Sur station in the town of Shaafah in the east of Deir ez-Zor.

The source told North Press that clashes erupted between the two sides, and sounds of explosions were heard throughout the region. The SDF is yet to comment on the incident.

The Euphrates River separates areas under control of the SDF and the US-led Global Coalition in the east from areas held by the government forces and the Iranian-backed militias in the west.

On Dec. 17, a security official in the government forces told North Press that the government is preparing armed groups to target Global Coalition forces and the SDF in eastern Syria.
