Government forces, HTS clash in NW Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Mutual shelling between Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Syrian government forces renewed on Thursday in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo, northwestern Syria, causing casualties on both sides.

A military source within the Syrian opposition told North Press that government forces targeted with rockets the villages of Fatterah and Kansafra in the Zawiya Mountain region, in southern Idlib, and the village of Kafr Amma, west of the city of Aleppo.

The source added that fierce clashes erupted between the al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, a coalition of HTS-linked armed Islamist factions, and government forces at Base 46 front at Kafr Amma.

Opposition media outlets circulated that the jihadist factions targeted positions of Iranian-backed militias at Base 46 front with heavy artillery.

They also claimed that the HTS carried out an operation against the front of the village of Urum al-Sughra in western Aleppo, resulting in the killing of more than 15 members and the injury of others from government and Iranian forces.

On Thursday, the Syrian Ministry of Defense said that units of the government forces repelled a “terrorist” attack in western Aleppo and downed seven drones.

The Ministry added that the units managed to killed and injure  “dozens of terrorists” and destroy their weapons and equipment.

HTS announced that a number of its members were killed in an operation it carried out on the front of the village of Kafr Taal near Base 46.
