2 SNA militants killed in Syria’s Afrin

AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Two militants of a faction of the Turkish-backed armed opposition, known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), were killed on Saturday in Afrin region in northwestern Syria.

A military source of the SNA said two unknown gunmen, who were riding a motorcycle, opened fire at a military post of Sultan Murad faction in the village of Kafr Janneh in the east of the city of Afrin.

The incident led to the killing of two militants and the injury of a civilian, according to the source.

The source added that Faisal al-Ali, a militant of Sultan Murad faction and hails from the village of al-Barqoum in south of Aleppo, was tortured to death in a prison of the Sultan Murad faction in the city of Afrin.

Attacks on military posts of the SNA factions and Turkish forces in the Turkish-occupied areas in northern Syria have increased. This, however, leads to campaigns of arrests that affect civilians in the region.

Afrin, a Kurdish-majority region, has been under the occupation of Turkey and the control of the SNA factions since 2018 following the so-called Olive Branch military operation to push away the People’s Protection Units (YPG) from the bordering region under the pretext of protecting “the Turkish national security.”
