Unknown gunmen fire at HTS leader in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen on Saturday fired at a leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) in Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria.
The HTS leader was attacked in the city of Jisr al-Shughur, west of Idlib, resulting in his injury. The incident marked the second within the past 24 hours amid a deteriorating security situation in Idlib.
A military source said unknown gunmen opened fire on a military vehicle affiliated to the HTS at 5 pm near the village of al-Kinda in the countryside of Jisr al-Shughur.
The attack resulted in the injury of Abu Bakr al-Sahili, a leader of the HTS-affiliated Saad Brigade (Saad Liwa) that operates in the northern countryside of Latakia on the Syrian coast.
The source noted that this incident is the second of its kind within 24 hours. On Nov. 1, unknown gunmen shot to death a leader of Amr Ibn al-Ass Brigade in the town of Kaftin in the northern countryside of Idlib.
Anti-HTS campaigns continue to escalate in Idlib as people express a discontent regarding its practices.
