13 ISIS militants killed in September, October in Syria, Iraq – CENTCOM
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed on Monday that 13 militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) were killed in September and October during operations carried out with the participation of the US-led Global Coalition and partners in Syria and Iraq.
CENTCOM said on X that “79 D-ISIS operations” were conducted in September and October, resulting in the killing of 13 ISIS militants and the detention of 78 others.
In Syria, three ISIS militants were killed and 45 were detained during “23 partnered operations and three US-only operations.”
In Iraq, 53 partnered operations were conducted, resulting in the killing of 10 ISIS militants and the detention of 33 others, according to CENTCOM.
As a result of these operations, prominent leaders of the group were arrested along with fighters, facilitators, attackers and sleeper cells, who CENTCOM confirmed were plotting to free ISIS prisoners with the aim to “replenishing their ranks.”
Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander, stressed US’ commitment to achieving the lasting defeat of ISIS to prevent the group from regaining “a foothold.”
CENTCOM is one of the eleven unified combatant commands of the US Department of Defense. It was founded in 1983, taking over the previous responsibilities of the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force (RDJTF).
In northeast Syria, CENTCOM aims at continuing to develop and enable the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to defeat ISIS and calls on states to repatriate their citizens, who joined ISIS, from Hawl and Roj camps.
