DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen killed on Saturday an officer and a soldier of the Syrian government forces in Daraa Governorate, southern Syrian amid security chaos. Meanwhile, a remnants of war explosion claims the life of a civilian.

A local source told North Press that unknown attackers shot dead a senior officer of the government forces and one of his escorts on the road between the city of Nawa and the village of Sheikh Saad in the western countryside of Daraa.

The senior officer was in charge of the tank battalion of Brigade 211 of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps stationed in the village.

The source added that in 2022, the commander of the same battalion, Ali Barakat, was killed with one of his escorts by unknown gunmen in the same town.

Following the attack, dozens of government soldiers were on high alert amid intensive inspections of cars at checkpoints.

Moreover on Friday, a remnant of war explosion resulted in the killing of a civilian while working in his land in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

A local source told North Press, “The young man Muhammad Merei al-Assoul lost his life in a remnant of war explosion while plowing his land in the vicinity of the town of Western Ghariyah in the eastern countryside of Daraa.”

So far, remnants of war have claimed dozens of lives, mostly children, in Daraa and its countryside after the government forces regained control in 2018.

Al-Assoul, who hailed from Quneitra Governorate, had been living with his family in Western Ghariyah for years.
