Government arrests 850 people in Syria’s Aleppo to serve military service
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Military Police of the Syrian government forces arrested 850 individuals in Aleppo Governorate, northwestern Syria, to serve the compulsory and reserve military service, a source within the Syrian government forces told North Press on Tuesday.
On Monday, North Press received a copy of an exclusive letter issued from the office of the Syrian Minister of Defense, Maj. Gen. Ali Mahmoud Abbas, addressed to Munther Saad Ibrahim, commander of the military office in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria, to send military call-ups for individuals wanted for reserve military service in Hasakah and Qamishli.
Since Nov. 9, about 850 individuals have been arrested and detained in prisons of the security branches in Aleppo to be sent later to military barracks, according to the source.
The target of the campaign is to arrest 4,800 individuals wanted for the reserve military service, according to the obtained information.
The source added that the Military Police branch is leading the campaign that has been going on over the past few days and they concentrate on neighborhoods in the eastern part of Aleppo.
