Government shelling causes material damage in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces launched on Monday several artillery and mortar shells on homes and agricultural lands in areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, causing material damage to residents’ properties.
A source from the village of Hawaij, east of Deir ez-Zor, said that five mortar shells landed on civilians’ homes in al-Maabar neighborhood near the Euphrates River. Additionally, two mortar shells fell on a commercial store in the town of al-Busayrah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The source told North Press that the shells caused significant material losses and damage to homes.
Days ago, a child was killed and his family members were injured when a mortar shell hit their home in the village of Hawaij.
Another source from the town of Susah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor said that three mortar shells landed near a civilian’s house in the al-Marashda neighborhood, causing damage to the house’s roof. The neighborhood was evacuated as the residents headed towards the Desert fearing the impact of additional shells.
The source added that more than five small rockets landed in agricultural lands near the town of Khsham in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. However, some of those rockets did not explode.
