SNA’s Military Police arrest civilians in Syria’s Afrin

AFRIN, Syria (North press) – The Turkish-backed Military Police of the Syrian National Army (SNA) arrested 10 people in Afrin countryside, northwestern Syria, 10 days ago under the pretext of collaborating with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), a local source said on Saturday.

Afrin have been under the control of Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions since March 2018. Since then, the region has witnessed repeated human rights violations against its original inhabitants, according to United Nations documentation. In addition, deforestation has become rampant in the reign as SNA factions have repeatedly cut down the olive and pomegranate trees that once covered Afrin.

The source told North Press that the Military Police arrested 10 people from the villages of Gamrok and Sharqiya in Mabata countryside, adding that they were transferred to the Military Police centers in the town.

The source added that one of the detainees, who hails from the village of Sharqiya, was deported from Turkey a while ago.

The Military Police released two detainees in exchange for a ransom of $600, but the others are still in detention, the source stated.
