Government forces kill HTS field leader in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria announced on Saturday that the Syrian government forces had targeted the field leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front) on Oct. 7 in the countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria.
Vadim Kulit, deputy chief of the Russian Reconciliation Center, affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defense, stated that the government forces targeted Saed Youssef, field leader of the HTS, in the village of Mayan in Idlib countryside.
The announcement came during a joint Syrian-Russian press conference, as Kulit said that during joint operations of the Syrian government and Russian forces, “23 observation points, training camps, 35 tunnels, and underground shelters for terrorists were hit.”
The conference is the first after the military academy attack on Oct. 5, where several drones struck Homs Military Academy’s courtyard during a ceremony graduation where families were gathered with the new officers.
As a result, about one hundred people were killed, including women and children, and about 277 others were injured.
Kulit emphasized that “all those involved in this crime will receive the punishment they deserve.”
The deputy chief stated that Youssef was involved in shelling the town of al-Qardahah in Latakia Governorate, on the Syrian cost.
