Israel not inform Russian forces ahead of strikes on Syria – Bogdanov

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said on Friday that Israel generally does not inform Russia about strikes on Syrian territory.

Russia would only know about the strikes “after the fact”, according to Tass, citing Bogdanov.

“They usually don’t inform us, as a general rule,” he added.

In addition, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the situation, that Israel has stopped warning Russian forces in Syria ahead of every airstrike it carries out in the country.

The Israel Defense Forces did not warn Russia ahead of an Oct. 30 strike on a military base in Daraa Governorate in southern Syria. Similarly, no notice was given when Israeli jets struck a Syrian base housing the Lebanese Hezbollah five days earlier, Bloomberg reported.

On Oct. 26, Israel condemned Russia after it hosted a delegation of Hamas in Moscow, calling it “an act of support of terrorism.”

On Nov.1, Russia condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Syria, saying they risked triggering a spillover of the Israel-Hamas war into a wider regional conflict.

Israel frequently targets suspected positions of Iranian-backed militias in Syria in what appears to be an effort to curb their movement.

On Oct. 31, United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, said the war between Israel and Hamas is spilling over into Syria worsening the already unstable situation.

Israeli airstrike targeted late on Oct. 29 two military camps of the Syrian government forces in the western countryside of Daraa.
