Iran denies targeting US bases in Syria, Iraq

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said on Wednesday that Iran has no link to the attacks on US bases in Syria and Iraq.

In an interview with Iranian Students’ News Agency, Vahidi said that his country has no involvement in the attacks targeting US bases and forces in the region.

On Tuesday, Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder said that between Oct. 7 and 31, 27 attacks targeted US bases in Syria and Iraq. Most of them were claimed by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which is affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The statement by the Iranian minister comes after warnings from leaders of the IRGC about targeting US bases.

On Oct. 28, IRGC spokesperson, Ramazan Sharif, said in an interview with al-Mayadeen TV channel, “Those who cannot reach Israel [in battle] may be able to reach the US forces that are managing this war.”

Sharif added that Iran is monitoring US bases in the region and US missile transfers to Israel.

The Iranian minister of interior said that “the peoples of Islamic countries cannot be indifferent to the fate of those oppressed in Palestine.”

He warned that the US “must learn that its actions will not go unanswered,” in reference to Washington’s support for Israel in its war against Hamas.

During a press conference in Turkey on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian warned of “harsh consequences” if the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip continues.

“If the war is not stopped, responsibility for the situation spiraling out of control lies with the U.S., Israel, and those who support war crimes,” the foreign minister added.
