Turkish authorities transfer 9 detainees from Afrin to Turkey
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Turkish authorities transported nine individuals, including young women, who had been detained in a prison in the city of Afrin, northwest Syria, to a Turkish prison on Tuesday.
These individuals were handed over to the Turkish authorities by the Turkish-backed Military Police of the Syrian National Army (SNA) through the al-Hamam border crossing in northern Afrin. They were charged with affiliation to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
On Monday, Turkish intelligence transferred four Kurdish men from Afrin, who had been arrested on the same day, to a prison within Turkish territory.
A source from the crossing informed North Press that “the Military Police transferred nine detainees from Afrin prison to the al-Hamam crossing with Turkey. They were then handed over to Turkish intelligence, who then transported them to a prison within Turkish territory.”
The source added that these detainees had been held in Afrin prison for 45 days after they were captured while attempting to cross the border into Turkish territory.
Among the detainees were young women Hiba Jawad, 19, and Nawal Aldrouish, 22. The identities of the other individuals are still unknown, according to the source.
