US to send 300 troops to Mideast – Pentagon

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The US will be sending additional 300 troops to the Middle East but will not be deployed in Israel, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

Since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, US bases in Syria and Iraq have repeatedly been subjected to drone and rocket attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its affiliated militias.

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder said the deployment aims to providing support with regards to  communications and ordnance disposal.

On Oct. 26, Ryder said that about 900 US troops have deployed or are in the process of going to the Middle East.

“They are intended to support regional deterrence efforts and further bolster US force protection capabilities,” Ryder said on Tuesday.

The Pentagon spokesman added that 27 attacks targeted US forces and personnel in Iraq and Syria during October.
