Four killed in government shelling of Idlib city
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Four people were killed and others were injured on Thursday in a bombardment carried out by Syrian government forces of the city of Idlib, in northwestern Syria, coinciding with Russian airstrikes targeting areas in the southern countryside of Idlib.
Many areas in Idlib Governorate have been experiencing a significant escalation in intense bombardment since the beginning of October, which is the most severe of its kind since February 2020. This has resulted in the death and injury of more than 230 people and the displacement of thousands of residents in Idlib, according to the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press.
Military sources informed North Press that government forces targeted with artillery residential neighborhoods in the city of Idlib, resulting in the killing of four people in the al-Qusur neighborhood and the injury of two others in the Wadi al-Nasim neighborhood.
In addition, the government bombardment also hit the villages of Sarmin and al-Nayrab in the eastern countryside of Idlib, amid frequent flights by Russian warplanes over the region. Furthermore, heavy artillery strikes targeted the village of Kafr Oweid in the southern countryside of Idlib.
On Wednesday, the Russian Reconciliation Center in the Khmeimim airbase in Syria announced that Russian warplanes conducted two airstrikes on opposition faction positions in the countryside of Idlib.
Russian warplanes also carried out several airstrikes on the southern countryside of Idlib on Thursday, but no information has been provided regarding the extent of the losses.
