CENTCOM says 20 US military personnel injured in Syria, Iraq last week
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Twenty US military personnel were wounded last week in a series of drone attacks at US bases in Syria and Iraq, US Central Command (CENTCOM) told NBC News on Tuesday.
On Oct. 18, twenty US military personnel were injured as two one-way attack drones targeted al-Tanf military base in southern Syria, according to the NBC, citing CENTCOM.
Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7, following a surprise attack by Hamas, many militias in Iraq, Syria, and even Lebanon have stepped up their threats of targeting US forces.
One of the drones was shot down. All of the wounded personnel were returned to duty, CENTCOM added.
On that same day, another four US personnel were injured in two separate drone attacks against US and Global Coalition forces stationed at al-Asad base in western Iraq, CENTCOM said.
The US shot down the one-way attack drones. One of the drones destroyed a hanger that contained small aircraft, according to CENTCOM.
However, all of the injured personnel were returned to duty.
US Department of Defense spokesman Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said on the same day that US troops stationed in Iraq and Syria have faced 13 attacks over the past week, involving both drones and rockets.
Pentagon officials have attributed all the attacks to Iran, although there is currently no evidence directly linking Iran to these assaults.
