2 SDF fighters, civilian killed in 2 attacks in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were killed on Tuesday in an IED explosion, and unidentified gunmen attacked an SDF checkpoint in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A military source within the SDF in Deir ez-Zor said an IED that was planted on the side of a road in the village of al-Jarzi in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, exploded in a military vehicle while patrolling the area.
The source told North Press that the explosion resulted in the killing of two SDF fighters and the injury of others. They were taken to a hospital in the Omar oil field and currently are “in critical health condition.”
In separate incident, a resident in the town of Abu Hamam said unidentified gunmen targeted an SDF checkpoint in the town, leading to clashes that lasted for a few minutes.
The resident told North Press, that a young man named Hussein al-Shehit lost his life when the gunmen indiscriminately fired gunshots as they retreated from the scene of the attack.
On Oct. 16, unidentified gunmen killed an SDF fighter near the main road in the village of Jazrat al-Buhamid in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
Deir ez-Zor and its countryside witness frequent assassinations against civilians, security forces and officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), usually carried out by ISIS cells.
