SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Protesters in Suwayda Governorate, south Syria, emphasized the unity of all Syrian territories and condemned Turkish attacks on northeastern Syria, as well as the shelling by the Syrian government forces on northwest the country. They also denounced the targeting of the Military Academy in Homs, central the country.
“We, as Syrians, should be united in all Syrian territories. We condemn the brutal Turkish assault on northern Syria, and the regime’s attacks on Idlib, northwest Syria,” Majd Harb, a media figure from Suwayda, said.
From Oct. 5 to Oct. 9, Turkey launched many airstrikes, artillery shells, and drone strikes on 224 locations in northern and northeastern Syria, targeting civilians and infrastructure such as gas, water, electricity, and oil facilities, according to the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press.
“We also condemn the orchestrated incident at the Military Academy in Homs”, he told North Press.
“The regime has been trying to divide Syria’s unity apart and turn it into parts of regions for a long time, which is absolutely rejected”.
He believes that the government tries to exploit incidents in Syria to divide Syrian society, making it easier to control. However, the Syrian people are very aware and alert to these intelligence tricks.
He emphasized that the Syrian people are united. “Suwayda’s people feel the pain of their brothers in Idlib, Hasakah, northeast Syria, coastal regions, and all Syrian Governorates.”
The Suwayda revolution is a revolution of all Syrians, who reject the intervention of foreign parties in Syria, according to Harb.
“We denounce bloodshed, whether by the Turkish forces against the Kurds, or by the regime against the people of Idlib, in addition to the regime and its ally [Iran] that carried out an attack in the Military Academy. People know this reality very well,” Yahya Saleha, a political activist, said.
“We hold Putin accountable because he has technology, weapons, and military forces. How can the drones attack the Military Academy?” Saleha added.
On Oct. 5, several drones struck Homs Military Academy’s courtyard where families were gathered with the new officers. The strikes took place minutes after Syria’s Minister of Defense Ali Mahmoud Abbas had left.
As a result of the attack, 89 people were killed, including 31 women and five children, and 277 others were injured.
“This square will be full of its free people who affirm every day that Syria is unified with its Kurds, Arabs, and all of its components. The martyrs sacrifices are precious to everyone”, Saleha said.
Activist Dima Tayfour holds the Syrian government and Iran responsible for the ongoing attacks in all Syrian regions.
“The regime claims that it fights terrorism [by shelling northwest Syria] after accusing ‘terrorist groups’ in the region of carrying out the Military Academy attack,” she told North Press.
“However, Syrians have now come to realize that the perpetrator who killed our young men in Homs is the same individual currently bombarding Idlib,” she added.
