Khmeimim announces killing 10 militants in airstrikes in NW Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Russian Reconciliation Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense at the Khmeimim Air Base in Syria announced the killing of more than 10 militants of armed opposition factions in air raids on Idlib, northwest Syria.
Russian warplanes escalated their bombing in areas in northwestern Syria, after a drone attack on a military academy in Homs on Oct. 5, which resulted the killing of 100 people, including officers, soldiers and some civilians. The Syrian government blamed “terrorist groups” for the attack.
Deputy chief of the reconciliation center, Vadim Kulit, said that militants of opposition groups in Idlib, northwest Syria, continue attempts to attack facilities in Syrian government-held areas by using improvised drones and modified multiple launch rocket systems.
To prevent such attempts, Kulit said, Russian warplanes struck facilities of militant groups in Idlib, killing over 10 fighters. “A mobile multiple launch rocket system on a pickup truck and five strike drones were destroyed. Two control posts and two underground shelters of illegal militant groups, and five depots with armament and munitions were engaged.”
On Oct. 10, Russian warplanes targeted with 10 airstrikes villages and towns in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, killing a woman and wounding an elderly person, according to opposition sources.
