Turkish border guards beat 23 Syrian asylum seekers in Syria’s Afrin
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards assaulted late on Saturday 23 Syrians while trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border near the town Jindires in the countryside of Afrin, northwestern Syria.
One person who was assaulted by the Turkish border guards told North Press that they severely beat about 23 Syrians, including three women and five children, while attempting to cross the border near the village of Nesriye in the west of Jindires.
In October, 64 cases of assault, including seven women and three children, were recorded by the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press.
The source added that the group consisted of young men and families from Zawiya Mountain in the south of the city of Idlib, northwestern Syria, who were displaced as a result of the recent military escalation by the Syrian government forces on the region.
The group of people were arrested and handed over to the Military Police of the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), in al-Hamam border crossing in the countryside of Afrin.
According to human rights reports, Turkish border guards constantly beaten, tortured and commit inhumane actions against Syrians trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border.
