Government shelling leaves 3 dead, 28 injured in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces renewed on Sunday artillery and missile shelling in Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria, killing three individuals and injuring dozens. Russian warplanes also resumed airstrikes on the region.

Since Oct. 5,  cities, town and villages in Idlib, Hama and Aleppo governorates have been witnessing intense government shelling following an attack on a Military Academy in Homs, which the government accused “terrorist organizations” in Idlib of being behind.

The shelling has resulted in more than 200 casualties including women and children.

A medic in the Idlib University Hospital told North Press that the government forces targeted with more than 25 rockets at once the residential buildings in the city center of Idlib and the vicinity of the hospital.

The shelling killed two children and a woman and injured 28 others, including 10 children, four women and two volunteers from the Syrian opposition’s Civil Defense with varying wounds, according to the medic.

Earlier on Sunday, the Russian warplanes launched several airstrikes on the Kabina area in Jabal al-Akrad in northern Latakia, western Syria, amid ongoing military escalation in the region.
