AANES condemns military academy attack in Syria’s Homs

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) condemned on Friday the drone strike that hit the military academy in the city of Homs in central Syria and accused Turkey of committing it.

On Thursday, several drones struck Homs Military Academy’s courtyard during a ceremony graduation where families were gathered with the new officers. The strikes took place minutes after Syria’s Minister of Defense Ali Mahmoud Abbas had left.

As a latest toll, Ministry of Health announced that 89 people were killed, including 31 women and 5 children, and 277 others were injured.

In a statement, the AANES said the drone strikes on its areas in northeast Syria and the city of Homs in central Syria means that the perpetrator is the same, that is Turkey and its “mercenaries.”

The AANES condemned the strike stressing that it targets all Syrians adding that the negative role of Turkey in Syria has become clear in terms of killing, looting, and destroying the infrastructure to force the population to emigrate to exterminate the people of the region and to continue its project in changing the demography of the region.

The AANES called for the necessity of the “Syrian national powers to work together against Turkey and it mercenaries to exit them from Syria.”

On Thursday, Turkish army launched drone strikes on the infrastructure in several areas of north and northeast Syria that is run by the AANES. The strikes took place following a statement by Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, in which he threatened to strike a broader range of targets in Syria and Iraq in retaliation for the Ankara attack.

On Oct. 1, two individuals carried out a bomb attack in front of the building of the Ministry of Interior in Ankara injuring two police officers.

On Oct. 4, Fidan claimed that the two assailants who carried out the attack had been trained in Syria. “From now on, all infrastructure, large facilities and energy facilities belonging to (armed Kurdish groups) in Iraq and Syria are legitimate targets for our security forces,” he threatened.

The AANES confirmed its commitment to preserve the unity of Syrian people and territory.
