SNA imposes fees on refugees deported from Turkey in Syria’s Tel Abyad
TEL ABYAD, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), imposed fees on Syrian refugee deported from Turkey and present in shelters in the city of Tel Abyad, northern Raqqa Governorate, northern Syria.
This payment process is considered as an extortion of Syrian deportees who want to reach their homes.
“The Third Corps, affiliated with the SNA, imposed a fee of $300 per person on 115 refugees deported from Turkey and present at the shelters in the city of Tel Abyad,” a source from the Military Police, affiliate with the SNA, told North Press.
The source added that the amount collected from the deportees is in exchange for including their names on the lists of those to be transferred to areas under the control of the SNA in northern and northwestern Syria. Many of them are unable to pay the fee.
Furthermore, the source mentioned that all registered deportees at the crossing who wished to return to their cities and towns had their transfer process halted today. The individuals to be transported will be determined later based on those who have paid the fee, as the crossing is under the authority of the Third Corps.
