Intense airstrikes target IRGC sites in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown aircraft carried out intense airstrikes targeting Iranian-backed militias’ sites in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, early on Tuesday, causing human casualties, according to a source in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The headquarters and positions of Iranian-affiliated militias in Deir ez-Zor have been subjected to intermittent shelling, while media outlets reported that Israel is behind the airstrikes targeting Deir ez-Zor.
A military source in the IRGC told North Press that unidentified aircraft targeted an ammunition depot for the IRGC with three missiles near the neighborhood of Harabesh in the city of Deir ez-Zor.
The source added that the airstrikes also targeted the radar post in the Iranian Cyber security battalion in the Harabesh neighborhood and targeted another post of the IRGC on the outskirts of al-Jafra town in Deir ez-Zor.
The same source stated that the airstrikes targeted a military post for the 119th Brigade near Deir ez-Zor Military Airport, carried out five airstrikes in Hamida area in the eastern countryside of Abu Kamal, the military gate on the Syrian-Iraqi border, the Hari Bridge on the Syrian-Iraqi border, and a military headquarters for the IRGC near Hamdan Airport.
According to the source, the aircraft returned two hours after targeting the previous sites and a headquarters of the IRGC and a military post for the al-Quds forces near Ain Ali shrine in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor with two airstrikes.
Iranian-affiliated militias were put on high alert after the airstrikes and evacuated all their headquarters, taking shelter among civilian houses out of fear of further shelling, according to the source.
Three militants of the IRGC were killed and four others were injured in the airstrike. Two women near the site of the shelling were also injured, as well as, significant material losses in weapons and vehicles were reported.
The state-run SANA news agency said that Israel targeted Syrian army sites in the vicinity of Deir ez-Zor, resulting in the injury of two soldiers and some material losses.
Israel has not commented on the airstrikes in Deir ez-Zor as of the time of publishing this news.
