DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Over the past two days, military reinforcements of the Syrian government forces have arrived in the northern countryside of Daraa. This development has raised concerns among the residents who fear increased restrictions or a potential new military operation.
Local sources told North Press on Tuesday that government forces have reinforced a military checkpoint in the vicinity of the city of Jassem, located north of the city of Daraa.
The sources said the reinforcements came from the nearby hills, where numerous posts of the Ninth Division of the government forces are situated.
The residents of Jassem are concerned about increased restrictions or the possibility of a military operation following these developments, the local sources noted.
Likewise, military reinforcements have arrived at several military posts near the city of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa.
In addition, further military reinforcements have arrived at the al-Ray post of the government forces. They have also bolstered the military checkpoints scattered on the outskirts of Tafas.
Amid the ongoing security chaos, Ali Mahmoud Gharir was tragically killed in the town of Eastern Ghariyah, located in the eastern countryside of Daraa. He was shot by unknown individuals.
Residents in the town told North Press that Gharir was a former government soldier and was accused of drug smuggling.
In another incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire on Muhammad Hassan Atalab in the village of Qarfa in the central countryside of Daraa. He was transferred to the town’s hospital after sustaining serious injuries, according to locals.
Atalab works in the recruitment department affiliated with government forces in the city of Izraa in the eastern countryside of Daraa.
