NW Syria witnesses military escalation, mutual shelling
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Areas in the countryside of Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama, within the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria, witnessed on Saturday a military escalation and mutual shelling between the conflicting parties resulting in casualties and injuries.
“Syrian government forces targeted villages and towns such as Kafr Taal, Kafr Amma, Tadil, al-Wasata, and al-Qasr west of Aleppo with dozens of artillery and missile shells. They also targeted al-Sirmaniyah and Duwayr al-Akrad west of Hama”, a senior source of the National Liberation Front told North Press.
“The shelling also reached villages and towns such as Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, and Kansafra in al-Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with no reports of human casualties”, the source stated.
The same sources reported that al-Fath al-Mubin Operations Room, including extremist groups, targeted government forces’ posts in the city of Saraqib and the town of Khan Subul, eastern Idlib, with heavy artillery shells and rockets, resulting in the death of three soldiers and the injury of two others.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.
