QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Hevdesti/Synergy Association, Syrians for Truth and Justice organization, and the Monitoring and Documentation Department in North Press have submitted a complaint to five UN Special Rapporteurs regarding the systematic torture practices and arbitrary detention carried out by factions of the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), against the population in the cities of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria, and Tel Abyad, northern the country.
Our non-governmental organizations jointly involved in this complaint have found that torture and inhuman treatment by the SNA factions constitute an ongoing practice that is not tied to specific events but is committed solely due to the control of these factions over those areas and the civilian population residing there.
In addition, our organizations conducted 20 direct interviews with victims of arbitrary detention and torture, as well as survivors and their family members. These interviews were further analyzed based on our years of work and extensive experience in documentation and advocating for the rights of victims. Our field researchers, along with other sources including UN reports and reports from international human rights organizations, contributed to this analysis.
