Explosion in residential apartment kills 2, injures 5 in Syria’s Afrin

AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Two people were killed and five others injured on Saturday in an explosion believed to be caused by an IED in a residential apartment in Afrin Region, northwest Syria.

A security source informed North Press that, “the explosion took place in an apartment in the city of Afrin, causing a huge damage in the apartment and to the surrounding buildings.”

The source further added that the blast had killed two individuals and injured five others, including Asaad al-Barodi, aka Abu Muhammad Ahrar, who hails from Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.   

The source said that the apartment was for al-Barodi who was a bomb-making expert and an ex-leader in Muhammad al-Fatih faction, affiliated with the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka Syrian National Army (SNA).

Al-Barodi also supports Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front).

Children and women were among the injured people. They were taken to al-Shifaa Hospital and the Military Hospital in Afrin, the sources noted.
