Residents of Syria’s Manbij mourn YPJ female fighter
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, with participation of administrative and military officials, residents in the city of Manbij, northern Syria, mourned Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) fighters who participated in fighting against Islamic State (ISIS).
Three fighters of the YPJ were killed on Friday in Manbij by a Turkish drone strike.
The YPJ is an all-female force that founded in April 2013 and is mainly made up of Kurds but includes other ethnic groups in northeastern Syria. It is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Shilan Ahmed, a YPJ fighter, who fought in many battles against ISIS and lost her life by the recent Turkish drone attack in the village of al-Hatabat, south of Manbij.
The fighter’s body was buried in “Martyrs” cemetery, south of Manbij. Manbij Military Council (MMC), Woman Military Council, Democratic Civil Administration, Martyrs’ Families Council, her family, and thousands of Manbij residents participated in the funeral.
Turkey targets the administrators and military individuals in north and east Syria by drones causing damages and casualties.
