SNA blocks road in Syria’s Raqqa after finding killed militant

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), blocked on Thursday the road between the towns of Suluk and Hamam al-Turkman, northern Raqqa Governorate, north Syria, after finding the body of one of its militants.

A source of the Turkish-backed Military Police faction told North Press that the body belongs to Fawaz al-Khamis who was a militant of Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction, affiliated with the SNA. He was killed with two shots to the head. The body was transferred to the forensic in the city of Tel Abyad, north Raqqa.

The source added that the Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction, in coordination with the Military Police, closed the road between Suluk and Hamam al-Turkman by setting up checkpoints at the scene of the incident.

The source mentioned that this is the first incident in the area during September, noting that three assassination incidents targeted SNA militants during August in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria, without knowing the perpetrators.

Both Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad have been under the Turkish occupation since 2019 following a military operation dubbed “Peace Spring” to push away the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) under the pretext of “the protection of the Turkish national security.”
