Turkish forces send reinforcements to Syria’s Raqqa

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces sent on Thursday military reinforcements through Tel Abyad border crossing to the town of Ain Issa in the north of Raqqa, northern Syria.

A security official at the Tel Abyad crossing told North Press that 10 Turkish military vehicles along with trucks carrying excavation machinery and some field artillery entered the Tel Abyad crossing at 06:00 am and headed to the village of Sharkrak area in the northeast of the town of Ain Issa.

The source added that the reinforcements were accompanied by protection from the Turkish-backed Military Police, a faction of the Syrian National Army (SNA).

These reinforcements are part of a series of military reinforcement sent by the Turkish forces to the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad.

Both Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad have been under the Turkish occupation since 2019 following a military operation dubbed “Peace Spring” to push away the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) under the pretext of “the protection of the Turkish national security.”

This is the third batch of reinforcements of its kind during the current month, according to the source. It is unclear whether the new reinforcements are replacing old forces.

On Sep.2, eight Turkish military vehicles along with trucks carrying armored vehicles and artillery entered Tel Abyad border crossing and headed to the village of  Sharkrak and Sakira near the town of Ain Issa.
