DEIR EZ-Zor, Syria (North Press) – A young man was killed and three others were injured, on Wednesday, due to two landmine explosions while attempting to cross to Lebanese territory from the countryside of Homs Governorate, central Syria.
“Two landmines exploded in a group of Syrian young people, most of them were from Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria,” Muhammad al-Salman, one of the individuals who were attempting to enter the Lebanese territory, told North Press.
The group attempted to get into Lebanon through the unauthorized Abidan border crossing, near the town of Mahallat al-Armuta on the Lebanese side of the Great River, on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
The explosion resulted in the killing of Hisham Abbas, 29, from the town of al-Abbas in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and the injury of Hussein al-Jalout, 18, Bashar al-Oujan, 27, and Hussein al-Oujan, 18. All of them hail from the town of Hajin in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, al-Salman added.
The source pointed out that the injured individuals are still in the Sayedat al-Salam Hospital in the village of al-Qoubaiyat in Akkar Governorate in Lebanon.
Since the beginning of events in Syria, the Syrian government forces have planted mines along the border with Lebanon to prevent arms smuggling, especially in Wadi Khaled border area, according to media reports.
