Unknown individuals attack Turkish military convoy in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified individuals targeted late on Sunday a Turkish military armored vehicle with a rocket on the Idlib-Bab al-Hawa road in the north of Idlib, northwestern Syria.

A military source within the opposition told North Press that unknown individuals targeted at 11:30 pm a Turkish armored vehicle with an RPG-7 on the road between the city of Idlib and Bab al-Hawa border crossing near the village of Batbo on the administrative border between the governorates of Aleppo and Idlib.

The armored vehicle accompanied a Turkish military convoy, consisting of more than 15 vehicles that entered the Kafr Lossin border crossing with Turkey in the north of Idlib and headed to the Turkish military posts in the south of Idlib, the source added.

The attack caused damages to the armored vehicle with no human losses, according to the source. So far no party claimed responsibility for the attack and no clarification was issued by the Turkish forces.

The attack is considered the first of its kind in over a year and half.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment between Syrian government forces and opposition factions accompanied by Russian warplanes’ flight despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.
